Rest In Peace?

She has finally been put to rest after 13 days of starvation and dehydration. A peaceful death? Well, far from it, her parents had fought desperately for her to be kept alive till the final moments. Americans are also divided as to whether the decision to allow her to die in this manner is really what she had wanted. Anyway what is done can never be undone, let's just hope that she is now leading a happier life over at the other world. Talking about entering the other world, The Pope has also just left for the better world. Being the Spiritual Leader of the Roman Catholic Church, his departure saddened hundreds of millions of Catholics all over the world. They have been praying for his recovery but I guess the Almighty God wants him more. Did he leave peacefully? I guess not as he had been plagued by illness after illness and had left behind unsettled matters. So even the person nearest to the Lord didn't have a painless death, who then can have a really peaceful end to life? In the first place, it's never easy to rest in peace especially in this modern world. With the advancement in medicine and life sciences, it has been made possible to prolong human lives through artificial means either through medication or transplant of organs. But is this artificial extension of life doing more good or more harm? Most people would want to live a long life and would do anything or pay any amount to have their expiry date extended. Or course there are those who shortened their journey in the hope of ending their miseries and sufferings on earth. Whatever the reasons, what is important is the quality of life rather than the quantity of life. One should know what is one's purpose of coming into this world. Are we here for our own sake or for the benefits of others? What role do we see ourselves performing on the stage of the world? There are criminals who accumulate wealth through unethical ways but live in constant fear of the law; while there are those who live humbly through honest earning. Of course there are rich people who make honest living and crooks who live in poverty but which group of people will actually rest in peace? I feel that only people who have played their role responsibly and made positive contributions to all those around them; people who have make their life larger than life, can make their departure with a clear conscience and more importantly truly rest in peace. Amen.
